Backing: The fabric that goes on the backside of a quilt.
Border: Strips of fabrics sewn to
the edges of your quilt used to frame it. You may choose to have more than one
border. If you have two, one is called the inside border and the other the
outside border. These may be different widths.
Sashing: Fabric strips that
separates the various blocks, framing them.
Stitch in the Ditch: A means of
sewing (quilting) your top quilt section to your batting and backing sections
by sewing inside your seam line.
Tied Quilt: This is where instead of
using stitching to hold your 3 layers together you tie your quilt in various
spaces throughout your quilt. Quite often done in the corners and center
squares.
